Peter Ping Li (PhD, George Washington University) is Professor of Chinese Business Studies at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, and also Professor of Management at California State University, Stanislaus, USA. His primary academic interest lies in the development of holistic, dynamic and dialectical frameworks concerning the impact of informal content and dynamic process on global strategic management. In particular, his entire research focuses on reexamining the extant Western theories from the cultural and social perspective of China and East Asia, especially by adopting the duality lens against the prevailing either/or logic in the West as well as the case study method to explore the interplay between formal and informal elements. His current research projects include the transaction value perspective, multinational enterprise as an institutional entrepreneur, the duality of rigor and relevance in management research, the role of strong trust in alliance learning, the learning-based view of internationalization, and finally the truly indigenous research on the Chinese management. He has published over 20 articles in Organization Studies, Management and Organization Review, Journal of International Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, among other academic journals. He has been a visiting professor at the China Center for Economic Research in Peking University and Xian Jiaotong University. He teaches International Business and Strategic Management at the undergraduate, MBA, and EMBA levels.

Personal Statement

By accepting the nomination to run for the Vice President of IACMR, I devote myself to carrying forward the great accomplishments of my predecessors. In particular, I will fully and faithfully serve the interests of all IACMR members inside and outside China. With both professional and personal interest, I am committed to the indigenous research on the Chinese management, which is the central theme of my candidacy for the Vice President of IACMR as the prime strategy for advancing and distributing the relevant management knowledge inside and outside China.

IACMR has achieved a highly successful progress, especially the impressive advance of MOR as one of the leading management journals in the world. If I am elected as its Vice President, I will not only continue the past success but also take several new initiatives around the central theme of the indigenous research on the Chinese management, such as the promotion of the issue as the theme of the 2012 Conference; more faculty forums on the issue; more doctorial dissertation workshops on the issue; more special issues of MOR and other journals on the issue; bridging the Chinese and foreign scholars for the cooperative research on the issue, among others. It is my firm belief that the mission and soul of IACMR lie in its full commitment to the indigenous research on the Chinese management as well as the cross-fertilization between the Chinese management research and the Western management research, with both being the indigenous research in their own respective contexts. The value and contribution of the indigenous research on the Chinese management to the global knowledge of management is no less and no more than the Western one. In particular, I will try my best to help the native Chinese scholars to gain the confidence and capability to become the world-class scholars by being true Chinese scholars. The more Chinese one is, the more global one can become. This is the duality of globalization and localization. Personally, I have fully devoted myself to the indigenous research on the Chinese management through my entire academic career so far, and I am more than ever committed to this great cause that deserves more attention.

My philosophy for the indigenous research on the Chinese management is to position itself as a cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural, multi-method, and longitudinal research that is both highly rigorous and relevant. By taking the open-ended approach, the indigenous research on the Chinese management can make the greatest possible contribution to the global knowledge of management. In particular, there is a pressing need for adopting multiple methods. To put the criterion of relevance ahead of that of rigor for the proper indigenous research as well as highlight the rigor of qualitative methods, I will strongly promote a wider use of the neglected qualitative methods (e.g., case study, grounded theory, and ethnography) for the theory-building in the indigenous research at the early stage in contrast to the theory-testing via the quantitative methods at the later stage.

In sum, I will try my best in the full capacity of Vice President to bring more Chinese scholars on board to further develop the indigenous research on the Chinese management both inside and outside of China.

Jiing-Lih (Larry) Farh (Ph. D., Indiana U. at Bloomington, USA) is a Chair Professor of Management at the School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Previously, he has also served as Head (2000-2003) and Associate Head (1993-1999) of the department. Before returning to Hong Kong, he was a tenured associate professor at Louisiana State University (1984-1993). He received a B.S. in Psychology from National Taiwan University and a MBA from National Chengchi University of Taiwan. He currently serves as a Senior Editor for Management and Organization Review, and has served on the review board of many journals including Academy of Management Journal, Human Relations, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, and Leadership Quarterly. He has published over 40 articles in international journals of management such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. His current research interests are primarily focused on the study of organizational behavior in the Chinese context, such as individual cultural values of power distance and traditionality, work attitudes, guanxi, leadership, and organizational citizenship behavior.

Personal Statement

Thanks to the hard work of its founders and numerous volunteers over the past decade, IACMR has grown into a large professional organization, serving at the crossroads between Chinese management scholars in Greater China and the West. As the theories, research, visibility, and influence of the field of Chinese management continue to grow in sophistication, ICAMR has departed from its infancy and entered into its adolescent phase. To develop further, IACMR now needs to articulate its mission and vision in terms of strategic initiatives and professional norms and values, communicate these to its membership, and seek their identification. It is in this critical phase that I would like to contribute to IACMR¡¯s development as its Vice President.

Since its inception, I have been an active member of the IACMR. I served as the director and co-director of the annual Chinese Management Scholar Research Methods Workshop held on the HKUST campus between 1999 and 2002 and at Xian in 2005. I was also appointed as a senior editor and a special issue co-editor for IACMR¡¯s flagship journal Management and Organization Review since 2006. There is nothing that brings me more joy than to see IACMR grow in strength and size in the future. If elected vice president, I look forward to leveraging all my passion for and experience in Chinese management research to help IACMR reach its fullest potential by advancing its mission and vision and developing it into a highly effective professional organization, thereby better serving its members and the wider academic community of Chinese management researchers in the future.

Jan Selmer is Professor, Department of Management at Aarhus School of Business, Aarhus University, Denmark. He received his doctoral degree in Business Administration from Stockholm University, Sweden. After living and working as an academic in Asia for almost two decades, first in Singapore and more recently for 15 years in Hong Kong, he has returned to Europe. Jan Selmer is a founding member of IACMR and his research interest lies in international management. Most of his research has explored cross-cultural management issues in Asia and particularly in China. He has published nine books and over 200 academic articles, book chapters, editorial reviews, monographs, and conference papers. He has published articles in refereed academic journals including International Business Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Journal of Business Research, Journal of International Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of World Business, Management International Review, and Personnel Review. He is currently the Associate Editor (Europe) of Cross-Cultural Management: An International Journal (Emerald) and he is a member of the Editorial Board of seven other international peer-reviewed academic journals. His book, Expatriate Management: New Ideas for International Business, published in 1995 by Quorum Books, U.S.A., has become a classic text and his text on China, International Management in China: Cross-Cultural Aspects, published in 1998 by Routledge, U.K., is still a leading book on this topic.

Personal Statement

If elected as IACMR¡¯s representative-at-large for Europe, I would support continuing the successful activities of the past while at the same time trying to promote a number of additional initiatives. Based on my extensive personal and professional experience of China, I will bring insights and tacit knowledge to IACMR that may benefit the further development of the organization. Especially the external perspective of an outsider looking into China, both based on personal experience and my research focus on business expatriates in China, may bring specific advantages to IACMR in this age of intense globalization of many Chinese businesses. Since cross-cultural encounters are at the heart of such developments, with substantive and long-lasting consequences for both individual firms and the persons involved, I will try to make such aspects of IACMR-related research to gain a prominent stature in the organization. I will also try to promote more host country aspects in cross-cultural management research. There is currently a dominance of the foreign point of view in such research on China and the indigenous perspective is clearly under-represented. This is not only unfortunate, but may exaggerate and promote many misunderstandings about China. Such an initiative may provide synergies with the endeavour of developmental activities for Chinese scholars. Last, but not least, I would try to convince more young researchers and fresh PhDs, especially in Europe, about the importance to do research about management in China. It is a vast country with a very fast economic development and the opportunities for research are enormous for young scholars from all over the world.

Barbara Krug, is professor at the Rotterdam School of Management and Manchester Business School. She studied economics in Munich, Taiwan, Saarbruecken and Oxford. Her major research area is Chinese economic development and institutional change. At the moment she works at ¡°Changes in governance¡±, the ¡°Usage of law in Cjhinese business¡± and ¡°Market Design¡±. She is the Academic Director of the Master programm ¡°Chinese Economy and Business¡± a joint venture with the University in Leiden where she also coordinates the cooperation with Manchester, Sydney (UNSW), and Chinese partner universities. She has over thirty years of experience in China where she collects statistical data at the local level and interviews managers, Party cadres and private entrepreneurs. Her most recent publications are China¡¯s Rational Entrepreneurs. The development of the new private business sector. Personal Statement

By accepting the nomination for representative at large for Europe of the IACMR I commit myself to carrying on the past achievment of the society. My focus of attention in the next years will be Chinese firms in Europe (or, more generally: abroad) which promises to broaden the research agenda and attract new members and outside support.

Erming Xu (PhD, Renmin University of China) is the Professor of Management, School of Business, Renmin University of China. He is also a Deputy Dean, School of Graduate Studies, Renmin University of China. Dr. Xu serves as a member of Business Education Discipline Group under the leadership of the China State Council Academic Degree Committee. He was an original member of China's National MBA Supervising Committee, and also the chairman of the business management education committee, under the direction of the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Xu was visiting scholar in McGill University, Canada, in 1988, and received a research Fulbright fellowship in 1994 to the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA to study international joint ventures. Dr.Xu taught MBA courses as a visiting professor for New York State University at Buffalo from 1997-2007. He was also Fulbright scholar in residence in 2001 to the University of Scranton accredited by the AACSB, Scranton, USA to teach international business. Since then, Dr.Xu is an affiliated faculty in the University of Scranton to teach MBA courses.

Personal Statement

I'm really honored to be part of the great list of nominees. I went down to the Chinese villages in the turbulent 1960s along with other idealistic young men during the Chinese Cultural Revolution to learn the hard lessons of life; I worked as a front line worker in a factory at Beijing before learning my way into Renmin University of China to study Industrial Economics and Management in China. I would say that it was this rich life experience that paved my way up to this place. It enables me to truly understand management practices and its theoretical development in China. From the perspective of strategy, today's China is playing an important role on the world's economic arena and this role is intensifying. Thus, there is great urgency and an increasing need to study China and its economy. I'm very glad to see that IACMR has become a platform on which the world-wide researchers and entrepreneurs are able to share their knowledge about China, and to push forward the study of Chinese management. I would be very pleased if I could be one of those who help construct this platform and who devote themselves to make it a better place. One of our current efforts is to introduce the neo-institutional theory in strategic management to Chinese scholars, and wish to lend a new perspective to the study of emerging economies. To conclude, I believe China is a promising country, and so is the study of Chinese management! I will try my best to serve IACMR.

Professor Gao, Xudong is a faculty member of the School of Economics and Management (SEM), Tsinghua University, and Director of the Tsinghua MBA program. He is also a senior research fellow at the Tsinghua University Research Center for Technological Innovation. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, a M.A. in industrial economics from the Renmin University of China, and a B.E. in industrial management engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology.

Dr. Gao's major research interests are in the areas of management of technological innovation, technology strategy, and strategic management, especially in the ICT industry, the oil industry, and the automobile industry. He is currently leading several studies on indigenous technological capability developmenta, and is conducting a study on unique characteristics of strategic management at local firms in China. He has published in Journals such as the Int. J. technology management, Int. J. technology and Globalization, Journal of Technology Transfer, Management World, and the Chinese Journal of Management. IACMR has become a leading organization in promoting quality research about management issues related to China and interactions among scholars interested in research topics related to China. Many initiatives by IACMR have made important impact on management studies by comparing management practices in China and that in other parts of the world. If elected as the representative-at-large for China, I'll do my best to support the existing initiatives such as assisting the development of emerging scholars, and new initiatives such as in-depth collaborations in research and teaching between IACMR members in the West and mainland China. From my research experience and many others, I strongly believe the managerial practice in China has huge potential to deepen our theoretical understanding about managerial issues not only in China but also in other part of the world, and in-depth collaborations in research and teaching between IACMR members in the West and mainland China is important. I was born in China, did my Ph. D. in the U.S., working in China, and travel intensively around the world, mainly because of formal collaborations between Tsinghua University and Universities in the U.S., UK, Japan, Korea, Chile, and other countries, so I believe I am well positioned to serve the members of the IACMR community in our efforts to take advantage of the rich experience of Chinese management to establish in-depth collaborations in research and teaching and develop deeper theoretical understanding about managerial issues.

Dean Xu is an Associate Professor of strategy and international business at School of Business, the University of Hong Kong. He obtained his LLB and LLM, both in international politics, from Fudan University, MBA from Baylor University, and PhD in strategy from York University. Before joining HKU, he taught at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University for six years. He is a founding member of IACMR.

Dean's research interests are mainly in Chinese firm strategy, multinational firm strategy, and competition between foreign entrants and local firms in China. His research has been published at some leading international journals such as Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, and Strategic Management Journal, as well as in regionally focused outlets such as Asia Pacific Journal of Management and Management and Organization Review.

I joined IACMR at the same time as I joined a mainland Chinese business school, as a fresh PhD. Since then, I have committed myself to Chinese management research, as well as involved myself in a discourse between indigenous Chinese scholars and the international research community by publishing in Chinese academic journals, business magazines, and financial newspapers. I have also shared my China experience with the emerging group of young researchers overseas who are interested in doing research in China. If elected as representative-at-large for Asia, I would continue these efforts, particularly with respect to the dialogue and exchange of ideas between Chinese scholars and Asian scholars at large.

T.K. Peng is a professor of organizational behavior at I-Shou University, Taiwan. Since his graduation from Texas Tech University, he has taught introductory management, organizational behavior, organization theory, human resource management, international human resource management, and research methodology at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. His current research interests focus on leadership, gender phenomenon in the workplace, and methodological issues. He has published in such outlets as Sex Roles, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of International Business Studies. In a recent study, he attempts to find out whether and under what conditions a transactional leader can be as effective as a transformational leader. He currently serves on the editorial board of Journal of Organizational Behavior. He enjoys reading and travel and he likes classic movies.

Though at its infant stage, IACMR has firmly established its legitimacy within academia and is becoming the go-to place for business leaders and consultants with interests in China related management research. If elected as the representative-at-large for the Americas, I would commit myself to continuing the meaningful path of IACMR in promoting management research in the Chinese context and facilitating international collaboration among scholars. I also believe IACMR with its great achievements to date can do even more in distributing management knowledge to Chinese firms operating in China and Chinese firms expanding internationally. Workshops on teaching Chinese businesses and meeting with executives from Chinese firms and non-Chinese firms investing in China might prove useful to scholars (particularly emerging scholars) and practitioners. Last but not least, if elected, I am committed to ensuring the impressive development of IACMR by listening to voices of its members.

Dr. Haiyang Li is associate professor of strategic management and innovation at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management, Rice University. He earned a Bachelor and a Master in economics from Renmin (People's) University of China and received a Ph.D. from City University of Hong Kong. Before joining Rice University, he was on the faculty of Department of Management at Texas A&M University. Dr. Li's research interests focus on technology entrepreneurship and innovation (particularly in China's transition economy), strategic alliances and multinational firms' innovation in emerging markets, as well as the growth of China's high tech science parks. His articles on the above issues have appeared in Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Marketing, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Management and Organization Review, Journal of High Technology Management Research, and others.

I feel honored to be nominated to run for the position of representative-at-large for America of IACMR. Over the past years, I have served IACMR both as a committee member for its biennial Conference Program Committee (2006, 2008, and 2010) and as a coordinator for the Caucus session (2006 and 2008). If elected as its representative-at-large for America, I will continue to commit myself to serving the needs and interests of members of IACMR and to promoting China related management research. In particular, I would strive to ensure the further development of the emerging scholar program and the linkage between IACMR members in the West (especially in the America) and the greater China region. Xiao Chen (Xiao.Chen07@Rotman.Utoronto.Ca) is currently a second year Ph.D. student in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management (OBHRM) at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, Canada. A philosophy graduate from the Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China, he received his Master of Arts in Asian Studies (China) and Graduate Certificate in Survey Methodology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. While he is primarily interested in cross-cultural management research, his most recent work include automaticity, formation of task-related networks, emotional labor, virtual work teams, acculturation and thriving at work, and moral behavior in the legal profession. His recent papers were accepted to annual conferences of the Academy of Management (AOM), the European Academy of Management (EURAM), and the Asian Studies Conference Japan (ASCJ). In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and making music that integrates European classical and Chinese folk elements.

Personal Statement

With a genuine passion for Chinese management research, I accept the nomination to run for the Ph.D. Student Representative of IACMR. If elected, I would commit myself to faithfully taking initiatives bolstering active IACMR involvements from global Ph.D. students and other junior scholars in Chinese management research. Through both collaborative and independent work, I would strive to create an effective and interactive student-member platform for idea exchange (e.g., to organize annual doctoral research idea development workshops), peer support (e.g., to launch an online buddy program), and graduate career service (e.g., to create an online database of sample graduate dossiers). I believe my past and current multiple roles with IACMR (e.g., assistant to conference program char, session coordinator, newsletter volunteer translator, future reviewer), my career aspiration in cross-cultural research enriched by 8-year North American graduate experience, along with my demonstrated student leadership capacities make me an ideal candidate for this position.

Mr. Dong Liu is a PhD student in the Department of Management and Organization, Michael G. Foster School of Business, University of Washington. He received his MPhil in Management from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004. His research focuses on leadership, creativity, teams, and entrepreneurship, with particular interest in understanding the complex interface between individuals and multilevel organizational contexts. He has strived to develop and verify multilevel organizational theories through field research conducted in various cultural settings such as United States, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Australia. His work has received the 2009 Top Poster Award from Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and was nominated for the 2007 Best Overall Paper Award by the Career Division of the Academy of Management. He has won the 2009 Dean's Outstanding Achievement Award and the Faculty of The Quarter (Winter 2009) Award from the Foster School of Business. His research has been in press or published in Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings, and Ivey Case Publishing. He teaches the undergraduate class, Leadership and Organizational Behavior at the Foster School of Business.

Personal Statement

It will be a great honor for me to serve IACMR, arguably the most vibrant international academic organization geared toward Chinese management research. If elected, I will strive to further boost its vibrancy for doctoral students both inside and outside China by implementing the following two initiatives. My first initiative is to make the voice of doctoral students "louder" in IACMR. I will ponder and voice Ph.D. students' views and concerns in discussions regarding IACMR activities and policies, thereby having doctoral students' perspectives taken into account in IAMCR's strategic decision-making process. Representing the future of management scholarship, PhD students should not only benefit tremendously from the intellectual exchanges occurring within the IACMR community, but also make valuable contributions to its sustainable development. I will also promote IACMR to doctoral students and individuals in the management world through the use of social networking technologies such as BBS, listservs, wiki, and facebook. These networking technologies, not exclusively taken advantage of by doctoral students, can help IACMR better communicate with all management researchers, increase research collaboration and job search opportunities, and allow for more meaningful dialogues on Chinese management issues. Overall, I hope that my effort will facilitate IACMR in becoming an indispensible part of the lives of its members as well as other scholars, who are interested in advancing knowledge in the Chinese context.

Xiaoxiao Hu is a second year student in the industrial and organizational psychology program in George Mason University. She attended Peking University (Beijing University) in China for undergraduate. She is generally interested in individual differences, personnel selection, and emotionality in work. She is also enthusiastic about measurement issues in I/O and cross-cultural studies.

Personal Statement

IACMR has developed in dramatic speed in its early years of existence. If elected as the outside China Ph.D. Student representative for IACMR, I would try to collect views of Ph.D. students in discussions regarding IACMR activities and policies. I would also help implement ways to get more Ph.D. students to be members of IACMR and to get those Ph.D. students who are members more actively involved in IACMR. To achieve this goal, I will start with my personal connections with many Ph.D. students studying outside China. I will be committed to serving the needs and interests of student members of IACMR.

Lulu Zhou is a second year Ph.D. student of management from the School of Business, Nanjing University. Her research area is human resource management. She obtained Bachelor and Master degree in business management from Suzhou University. She is innovative in academic activities. She has good communication skills and team-work spirit. IACMR is a great academic organization aimed at promoting management research in China context. I feel honored to be nominated and selected as a finalist to serve as for mainland China's Ph. D. Song Wang is a Ph.D. student of Organization Management, at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. She received Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Zhejiang University and exchanged to University of Hong Kong and Kyung Hee University in Korea. She won China National Scholarship and the First-Class Excellent Scholarship in both Peking University and Zhejiang University. Her research interests include leadership, organizational contextualization and self-esteem. Her paper on Paternalistic Leadership has been recognized as the most outstanding dissertation in Zhejiang University. And she won the excellent prize in Scientific Research Training Program in Zhejiang University. Additional, she served the president of Running for 2008 Olympic Sports Community, which was autographed by Juan Antonio Samaranch and Zhenliang He and named as the Star Community in Zhejiang University. She also worked as an intern in Monitor Consulting, Pepsi, Vanke , Baidu and so on.

Personal Statement

If selected as the mainland China Ph.D. Student representative of IACMR, I bend myself to carrying forward the great promotion of Chinese management research in China and around the world. I promise to faithfully represent the voices of Ph.D. students in discussions regarding IACMR activities and policies. Furthermore, I strive to assist in establishing the bridge between IACMR and Ph.D. students seeking for academic development, by the means of introducing profound western management theories and Chinese indigenous research. I will also put my heart in member services, especially getting those Ph.D. student members more actively involved in IACMR. Besides, it's really my honor to help with various tasks assigned by President. I find myself three advantages in being selected an IACMR officer. First, my passion for academic research, which allows me to have a deep observation to my surrounding world and to treasure very much this opportunity to participate and to learn from the talents in management research field. Secondly, my serious attitude and related internship experiences, which enable me to be more adaptive and to better handle the daily work. Last but not least, my friendly and amicable temperament and communication skills, which make me spontaneously, enjoy providing service and contacting with others in the academic community.
