Grounded theory methodology (Glaser & Strauss, 1967; Glaser, 1978), one of the most recognised, widely used and most misunderstood methodology in social sciences (Suddaby, 2006; Shah & Corley, 2006) will be introduced, with a particular focus on the ‘relevance’ of business and management research. The origination and development of the methodology will be explained, as well as its principles, procedures and criteria. Also reviewed are the challenges facing researchers and strategies of overcoming them.
