学者教授发展论坛(Session
20H) 花园酒店, 6月22日, 13:30-17:30 在2008年IACMR会议上举办青年学者论坛的主要目的是从中国大学中选择学者从事本土化问题研究，特别是从事那些急需并且非常有挑战性的本土化研究。 论坛主要使用中文（如有必要，也可以用英语）。论坛期间将有四位教授莅临参加，他们是：樊景立[Larry Farh]（香港科技大学）、梁觉 [Kwok Leung] (香港城市大学)、李平 [Peter Ping Li]（加利福尼亚州立大学）和 彭维刚 [Mike Peng]（得克萨斯大学）。 教授们将就以下话题进行介绍： I. 本土化研究的最好方法是什么？
按照Enriquez对本土化研究的分类，本土化研究可以被分成三种类型：

为什么我们要采用第三种方法？ II. 在本土化研究中，最有潜力的研究领域是什么？ III. 怎样在高质量的英文杂志上发表本土化研究的文章？ 3个小时的论坛安排如下：
(a)45分钟的小组座谈[随后是简短的休息] 我们鼓励所有的参与者都参加论坛之后的非正式宴会。 申请要求 论坛通过公开申请竞争方式邀请会员参加，所有对本土化研究感兴趣的学者，包括青年、中年学者及资深教授都可以申请参加。申请者提交的申请中应包含简略的简历和兴趣，届时大约有30位申请者将被邀请参加论坛，申请可以采用汉语或者英语。申请的最后截止期限是2008年5月15日。申请者请将申请以邮件附件的形式发送给李平 [Peter Ping Li] 教授(pli@csustan.edu)。
每个被邀请的参加者都将收到一些需要阅读的文件，参加者应当在参加论坛之前就阅读相关文件，从而在进行深入的讨论和辩论时能够积极参与。 Garden Hotel, June 22, 13:30-17:30 The overall goal of the faculty development consortium at the 2008 IACMR Conference is to expose the faculty members from the Chinese universities to the issues related to indigenous research, especially the need for, and the challenge of, indigenous research. The consortium will be conducted primarily in Mandarin Chinese (also English whenever necessary). Four senior faculty members will serve as presenters and discussants for the consortium. They are Larry Farh (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), Kwok Leung (City University of Hong Kong), Peter Ping Li (California State University, Stanislaus), and Mike Peng (University of Texas at Dallas). The senior faculty members will present on the following topics. I. Which is the best approach to indigenous research? Following Enriquez's typology of indigenous research, we identify three basic approaches to indigenous research: (a) Indigenization from without: This is concerned with a naïve replication of the Western constructs and models. This is a necessary first step, but far from enough for global theory-building; (b) Indigenization from within: This is concerned with a contextualized research with the development of indigenous constructs and models; this is also necessary, but not enough for global theory-building; (c) Cross-indigenization: This is necessary and the most significant research for global theory-building; 1. Why do we need to adopt the third approach? 2. How can we do quality work with the third approach? II. Which research streams have the best potentials for indigenous research? III. How can we publish indigenous research in quality English journals?
The 3-hour consortium will be scheduled as follows: (a) 45 minutes for the panel presentation [followed by a short-break] (b) 90 minutes for the sub-group discussion [followed by a short-break] (c) 45 minutes for the round-table conclusion [followed by an informal dinner] All participants are encouraged to join an informal dinner after the consortium.
Application Requirements: The consortium is by invitation via a process of open competitive application. Application is open to all faculty members, including junior, mid-career and even senior faculty members who are interested in indigenous research. Application should include a short resume and a statement of interest. Proximately 30 participants will be invited to attend the consortium. The application can be in either Chinese or English. The application process will end on May 15, 2008. The application package should be sent as an e-mail attachment to Professor Peter Ping Li (pli@csustan.edu). A package of required reading will be provided for each invited participant. Participants are required to read the package before coming to the consortium so as to be ready for an active participation in the in-depth discussion and debates rather than a passive attendance.
