IACMR Mentorship Program

IACMR is pleased to introduce a new program that adds another dimension to our mission: The Mentorship Program. This program will provide enhanced research opportunities to doctoral students, post doctoral junior scholars, and established scholars. It will offer established scholars the opportunity to enrich their own research access as well as the opportunity to have an active role in shaping the research direction and skills of their junior counterparts and, by extension, the research direction and skills of the Chinese research community. For doctoral students, it will provide the much needed access to scholarship and research practice outside the PRC and the opportunity to develop working relationships with established scholars in their field. Both groups should, thus, be able to publish more high-impact papers and books.

IACMR’s role in developing these mentorships will be to provide a platform for identifying appropriate mentors (senior scholars) and mentees (visiting scholars from China), facilitate introductions and placements, assist in the relocation process and conduct program evaluations.

IACMR will, also, assist international doctoral students and post doctoral scholars seeking the opportunity to do research in China.

We strongly encourage the Chinese scholars and international doctoral students and post doctoral scholars who have secured funding from the government or their universities to submit applications to both Professor Haiyang Li (haiyang@rice.edu) and Mr Red Ng (iacmr@asu.edu). In the application, the following materials should be included:

1. Documented completion of all course work for the Ph.D. or DBA.

2. Language facility in the language of the country in which they hope to study or English proficiency.

3. Letter of agreement from the funding agency that financial support will be provided for their stay in the foreign country they will be visiting.

4. Concurrence of their Dissertation Chair or Department Chair: Letter or signature.

5. A qualifying research proposal (about 5 to 10 pages).

The applicant must be an active (paid) member of IACMR during application and the duration of the mentorship period. Please submit membership payment receipt. Membership payment receipt may be requested by emailing iacmr@pku.edu.cn.

An IACMR screening committee will read the applications of the student-scholar and send them on to an identified mentor-sponsor, who will then provide the sponsorship letter.
