The IACMR Newsletter is a bilingual newsletter, sponsored by
Beijing New Curves Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Posts and
Telecom Press, published by the International Association
for Chinese Management Research to facilitate the
communication between the association and its members as
well as to stimulate the dialogue among researchers in the
field of Chinese Management. It appears on a quarterly
basis. |

| To sustain
and enhance the development of IACMR, the Membership
Development Task force, consisting of Chao Chen, Anne Tsui,
Eva Yao, and Camila Zhang, conducted a survey during
January- March 2011 of IACMR members. Here is a report on
the major findings of the survey and a plan of actions as
proposed by the task force. |

Respondents. 3776 active members (AM) and non-active members
(NM, i.e., non-paying but holding online accounts with
IACMR). Overall, 362 questionnaires were returned, a 20%
response rate from AM (230) and a 5% (132) for NM. . |

Objectives for Joining IACMR. The majority (over 90%) of the
respondents rated “networking and exchanging ideas with
academic colleagues” as “very important” or“important”.
Other objectives that received important or very important
rating by above 50% of the respondents were: getting
research and teaching resources, learning advanced research
methodology, getting guidance and coaching, presenting
research, learning how to do research, and learning how to
publish journal articles. |

Achievement of Objectives. On a scale ranging from“complete
achievement” (100 percent) to “none” (zero percent), The
objective of “networking and exchanging ideas with academic
colleagues” was rated as being completely or largely
achieved by 56% of the respondents,“presenting my research”
by 55%, and “learning how to do research” by 51%. Only one
third of the respondents rated the objective of “getting
guidance and coaching” as being completely or largely
achieved. |

fall into the following areas: 1) the variety, frequency,
and quality of IACMR activities; 2) publicity, outreach, and
networking with external constituents, such as corporations,
governments, and peer associations; 3) financial health of
IACMR through cost reduction and fund raising, and 4) the
effectiveness and efficiency of online and staff
administration. |

process of further digesting implications of the results and
planning courses of actions. Here are the major initiatives
under consideration to enhance the development of IACMR. |

scholars at different levels of development, in different

Reaching out to deans, department chairs, and senior

support fundraising for IACMR. |

The March issue of MOR (Volume 7, Issue 1) is an
Editors’ Forum. This forum brings together three interesting
articles with a special introduction from the guest editor
Marshall W. Meyer. In addition, this issue contains two
regular articles and a perspective piece.
The articles in this forum discuss the everevolving nature
of Chinese economic practices and help unravel the enigma of
China’s unique form of economic development. The other
articles discuss social ties, psychological contract
fulfillment and organizational citizenship behavior, and
strategic human resource management. In addition to the

The July issue of MOR (Volume 7, Issue 2) is a
Special Issue on “Globalization of Chinese Enterprises.” The
special issue begins with an introduction by the guest

topics such as motives for outward foreign direct
investment, multinational advantages of Chinese business
groups, and the influence of high-discretion organizational

The College of Management,
National Sun Yat-sen University was established in Kaohsiung
City, Taiwan, in 1984. Situated alongside the Kaohsiung
Harbor, the NSYSU campus possesses an excellent geographical
niche facing the open waters of the Taiwan Strait and
sitting against the lush
hills of the Longevity Mountain. The College of Management
emphasizes entrepreneurship, leadership and international
vision, which we believe to be essential qualities for
future business leaders. The College offers a number of
full-time and part-time programs at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels, available in both Mandarin and English,
including: Business Management, Finance, Information
Management, Public Affairs Management, Human Resource
Management, Communications Management and Health Management.
In addition to the academic programs, the College also runs

research centers at both university level and college level;
in 1998, the College launched the first EMBA program in
southern Taiwan, integrating resources from industries and
academia, contributing to the Taiwanese economic and
societal development by creating ever more added values. |

Priding itself on being a
research-oriented academic institution, the College was led
by Prof. Lin Chi-Yuan as the first Dean, and has achieved
what it has today under the lead of prominent professors
including Huang Chun-Ying and the current Dean Prof. Wu
Jen-Her. The College attracts many distinguished scholars,
domestic and international alike, to work in the College’s
research and teaching environment. Currently the College has
more than 80 full-time faculty members, 95% of whom hold a
Ph.D. degree from world-renowned institutions; the salient
performance of publication and teaching by our faculty
members have constituted a solid foundation for the
College’s meritorious international reputation. |

The college has received its
accreditation in Business by the Association to Advance
Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) since 2005 and
maintained reaccreditation in 2010, marking NSYSU the
leading university in Taiwan with such achievement. The
College also was the first one to be successfully reviewed
and accepted to the Pacific Asian Consortium for
International Business Education and Research(PACIBER).
Furthermore, the College’s EMBA and Master in Management
have continuously been ranked top fifty and sixty in recent
years by the Financial Times, rendering the College a prime
role amongst its counterparts in international efforts in
Taiwan. |

The College is vigorous in
international collaboration for both faculty members and
students. In addition to sending faculty members to the
Harvard Business School and participate in the Global
Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning on a regular
basis, the College is also active in inviting eminent
international scholars to conduct research with our faculty
members annually, and more than 40 Englishtaught courses are
offered every semester for our international degree and
incoming exchange students. In view of the global trends,
the fully English-lectured International Business MBA
(IBMBA) program was established in 2005, providing students
with yet another channel for international management
education and increasing students’global perspectives. In
line with its international efforts, the College currently
has more than 40 international partners from 17 countries,
engaging in academic cooperation and exchange agreements. |

To further its international
ties, the College established a Double Degree Program in
Management with Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales
d’Angers (ESSCA) in 2006, and launched a unique triad global
MBA program - ACT program - amongst the Johannes Kepler
Universitat in Linz,
Austria, University of Victoria, Canada, and National Sun
Yatsen University, Taiwan, in 2005. Themed Doing Business in
Region, the ACT program is reputed for cross-continent
management skills and cross-culture exchange, putting
together coursework in theories, teamwork composed of
students from three countries, and practical trainings with
field visits and company consulting projects. Through
intensive interactions with members of diversified
background, students are able to learn about management
issues in Asia, North American, and Europe; most important
of all, students’ language, knowledge and global vision will
be strengthened. By means of the two way exchange, the
College aims to raise students’ global mobility by
encouraging them to study abroad, and create an
internationalized campus by receiving international
students. |

Our curriculum is designed
around the aspiration of cultivating future cross-generation
management leaders, and students are encouraged to
participate in extracurricular activities to build on their
team spirit and leadership capacity. The College also has
introduced the frontier Systems Thinking and Organizational
Learning Laboratory (STOLL), offering students a first-rate
learning environment. A great emphasis is placed on overseas
field visits by our EMBA program, thus allowing executive
students to build a worldwide network by these study trips
to counties in Europe, North America, ASEAN, Singapore, Hong
Kong, and China. Aligned with our endeavors, our EMBA
program not only was ranked the top by the Financial Times
in the category of Aims Achieved in Taiwan, graduates’
Salary Increase also reaches 56%, rendering the College well
perceived and respected with its achievements by the general
public. Last but not least, the more than thirteen thousands
alumni the College produced over the past twenty years have

an under-researched topic, although the emergent dialogue
consists of conceptual work, historical outlines of various
management innovations and empirical studies. This EURAM
Mini-Conference and special issue provide a platform to
share ideas and stateof-the art research on management

Special Issue of European Management Review and a Themed
Section in Organization Studies. Keynote speakers include

history of more than 60 years in linguistic and
cross-cultural studies, and has had 26 years’ experience in
management education and research. This conference aims at
building a platform for exploring features essential to the
definition of borderless management, the latest issues in
the management of multinational, global enterprises, and the
characteristics, selection and training of people for
borderless management. We extend a warm welcome to experts,
scholars, practitioners as well as PhD and MA students in
such fields as international enterprise operation and
cross-cultural management, to come to the conference and
share thoughts on the latest issues in “borderless
management talent cultivation”. |

A paper proposal should be
made up of two parts, the title and abstract, and the full
paper. The title and abstract should be submitted no later
than June 30, 2011, and the full paper by September 10,
2011. The conference will arrange both Chinese and English
forums, and both Chinese and English proposals are welcome.
All submissions will be subject to double-blind reviews, and
acceptance notices will be issued no later than October 10,
2011. Submissions should be sent to dujuancib@shisu.edu.cn. |

A registration fee of RMB
500.00 per person will be collected for domestic scholars,
and USD100.00 for international scholars. Doctoral and
master candidates are exempt from registration fees.
Participants are expected to pay the fees upon registration.
Registration time will be announced later. |
